Special Classes

Rider Tests – SRDI has Rider Test Leaderboards this year!

The Rider Tests are designed to focus more on the effectiveness of the rider at a given level, without

giving extra credit for the horse’s paces, impulsion and submission. Flamboyant paces are not being

evaluated in these tests, so riders may feel they can be more competitive when their horses have modest paces or are not always cooperative.

Eligibility of the rider

These Rider Tests are intended principally for amateur owner riders (AORs). Professional riders must

compete HC in Rider Tests. Below is the EA definition of an amateur owner rider (AOR): 3

‘An amateur owner rider’s principal source of income (<$500 per annum) must not be obtained from

sponsorship, breaking, training, riding or coaching any horse or rider over the last two years.’

http://www.equestrian.org.au/sites/default/files/National_Adult_Amateur_Owner_Rider_Division_update_after_ADC_August2016_meeting.pdf

Riders who are not AOR must compete HC if the horse they are entering has a Dressage Competition

Licence and has achieved over 60% in any official dressage competition at that level, or at a higher level,

in the last 2 years.

Exemptions will be considered - If a rider does not wish to ride their horse HC, they should apply in

writing to the SRDI Committee at least a week before entries close to be granted an exemption so they

can ride competitively. Applications setting out reasons for a request for an exemption will be

considered on a case-by-case basis. An example could be - an inexperienced rider has purchased a horse

with a Licence that has achieved over 60% in an official dressage competition at that level, or at a

higher level, in the last 2 years by a professional rider.

Applications should be sent to swanriverdresageevents@gmail.com

Refreshments:

Catering – food and drinks will be available for purchase at the event.

Withdrawals/Refunds

Withdrawals: if a rider finds that he/she must withdraw from a class, and wants to claim a refund, the rider must complete the Application for Refund for a Withdrawal on the SRDI

website and email it to treasurersrdinc@gmail.com . ‘Entry fees will be refunded in full for withdrawals before the closing date of entries. Entry fees will not be refunded after the closing date of entries unless a medical or veterinary certificate is produced within 24 hours of the completion of the event. In such cases, 50% of all fees paid to the club will be refunded. The refund will not include fees paid to the website hosting the event entry or the financial organisation handling fee payments.

12. Caution Cards – SRDI events are ‘Goodwill’ events. SRDI appreciates the valuable contribution volunteers & officials make to our sport. It supports the mantra: ‘Respect volunteers & officials’. Where a participant or supporter breaches the EA Code of Conduct, Caution Cards will be issued & details noted.

13. Breaches of EA Code of Conduct - any rider, groom or spectator who breaches any EA Code of Conduct either at or in relation to a SRDI dressage event (this includes social media) may be refused entry, along with their connections, to SRDI dressage events (EA General Regulations).

14. Enquiries about SRDI draws, schedules etc – please direct enquiries to SRDI Event Secretary

swanriverdressageevents@gmail.com

15. Enquiries at the event - enquiries must be directed to personnel in the office at the event, NOT OC members who are preparing to compete or who are warming down or otherwise attending to a horse’s needs.

16. Scoring – any query regarding scoring must be referred to a SRDI representative. Under no circumstances are competitors or their connections to approach scorers directly.

17. Protests – any issues must be lodged in writing during the event as per the EA General Regulations, Article 163.

18. Please read the Schedule before sending the OC a message. Most members of the OC have very busy lives. Owing to the volume of communication the OC has received in the last days before & after events, the OC cannot guarantee that they will respond to enquiries which are in fact covered in the Schedule. The Schedule is available on the SRDI Website www.swanriverdressage.com

19. SRDI Member Leaderboard – to be eligible, horses or ponies must be owned or ridden by a member of SRDI. Points will only accrue from the date the owner or rider becomes a member of SRDI. A horse or pony’s highest percentage in a category at each event in the Dressage with Decorum Series will be accrued in the Leaderboard scores. The winner of each category will be the horse or pony with the highest aggregate within each category. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the Series Final in October. For full details, see the SRDI Website.

20. Ponies - on the day, the rider must be able to provide a current, valid EA Height Certificate showing they do not exceed 149cm with shoes, 148cm without shoes if asked.

21. EA stallion rules - the current EA stallion rules must be followed

22. Alterations - the program may be altered subject to the organisers’ discretion.

23. Helper Fee - Each rider will be charged a Helper Fee of $10 per test entered.  These funds will be used to hire staff to work at the event. Competitors may apply to the OC for one of these jobs at treasurersrdinc@gmail.com. You will be advised prior to the event if you have been selected. Payment is $15 per hour in half day shifts.  Tasks will include writing(must have experience), parking marshal, gear checker/marshal, test sheet collection, canteen and picking up manure from the arena..

24. Timing - subtle adjustments to timing of a class may occur such as a consequence of a scratching, a multiple horse rider clash or an unwell judge. Any change will be posted on the SRDI website & will be emailed to competitors. It is the competitor’s responsibility to provide a correct email address for notification of any change to the draw.

25. Saddlery, clothing & equipment - it is the competitor’s responsibility to comply with the EA rules.

26. Swabbing - may take place.

27. Withdrawals and refunds - if a rider finds that he/she must withdraw from a class, and wants to claim a refund, the rider must complete the Application for Refund for a Withdrawal on the SRDI

28. Arena familiarisation – may be held prior to the first test commencing, & may be held during a lunch break. More details will be supplied on the draw.

29. Riding or handling horses at SRDI events – horses must be entered in a competition on the day to be eligible to be ridden or handled at SRDI events. Exceptions may be allowed if written permission is obtained from the OC.

30. Postponement, alteration of start times owing to hot weather, or cancellation of events – although it is unlikely, under certain circumstances it may be deemed necessary to postpone or cancel part of, or all of, one or more events on a day or days for reasons of health & safety (eg extreme weather or a bio-security issue). On such occasions, to defray costs, the OC may choose not to refund entry fees. Insuring against postponement or cancellation is expensive, & SRDI do not believe they can justify charging higher entry fees to cover insurance against such remote possibilities. Examples of situations where postponement or cancellation could occur would be extreme weather forecasts by the Bureau of Meteorology such as gale force winds or lightning, heavy rain that results in flooding of the arena and other facility areas or an outbreak of disease such as Equine Influenza or Hendra Virus. The decision to alter start times, postpone or cancel would be taken by the OC in consultation with the Technical Delegate &/or President of the Ground Jury. It is the competitor who enters responsibility to check if start times have been altered in the case of hot or inclement weather.

31. Riders &/or owners whose entries have been accepted, undertake to indemnify the OC against all claims, losses, suits, and damages made against or suffered by the OC by reason of any negligent act or omission on the part of any riders, trainers or attendants whilst they are attending, riding or otherwise handling a horse, and agree that any act or omission on the part of such riders or attendants found in any action against the Committee and facility owners to be negligent, shall be deemed to have been negligent for the purpose of any claim under this indemnity. By attending, riders & other attendees acknowledge acceptance & understanding that they participate in this event at their own risk. Neither SRDI, nor the facility owners, nor their appointed officials accept any liability for any accident, theft or illness to horses, riders, grooms or any person or property whatsoever.

32. Float yards – may only be erected with the permission of the OC owing to limited parking space for floats & trucks during this event. Some stables & permanent yards are available by arrangement with Camellia Park. Competitors are advised by the facility owners to make sure horses are fully supervised at all times when yarded or tied to a float.

33. Lungeing - may only be carried out in the yard designated for lungeing at the event. The lungeing of a rider mounted in the saddle is not permitted anywhere at an event (EA Rule)

34. Dogs – no dogs please.

35. Catering – food and drinks will be available for purchase at the event.
